You will need:
Scissors
Fabric of choice
Foam
Sewing machine
Matching Thread
Puffy Paint
Wrights Binding Tape in a color to match
Wood (for replacing the base)
Step 1
I started by replacing the base. I realize that my niece is one of those kids who likes to try things out herself first, so I needed to replace the thin base that came in the crib. The same base that her father broke in mine. I took the old base to Lowe's and they helped me cut a new one.
I secured it inside with a new piece on the bottom so that it would lay flat and add support
Step 2
My nieces are very into the Flower Fairies by Cicely Mary Barker
Since I am going to be making Joscelyne her very own big girl bedding soon,
I decided to make the crib bedding match!
I started by using some crib foam I already had and used it to lay out some Bumper Pads for the doll crib
I even made them in 6 pieces like you would see in a baby crib
Next I picked out a fabric
which is a green that matches the fairy fabric
I cut out squares that would cover each of the Bumper Pads
and then repeated front and back for all 6 pieces
I then took the fairy fabric and cut out 6 cute fairies to use as appliques for the Bumpers

To make the Applique
Use the wonder web, or double sided fusible web
You iron one side down and then the other.
There are usually directions that come with it when you purchase it
After they have cooled down I add a little puffy paint around the edges to clean them up and help keep them from fraying
Step 3
To make the Bumper Pads I sew the front and back sides together with good sides facing each other.
I leave a small gap like I would when creating a pillow so that I can turn them right side out and finish them
to give the corners a more squared look, I fold down diagonally and stitch a line across and snip the excess.
To create the ties I just used some matching binding that I already had and stitched the opening closed.
Step 4
To create the mattress I cut left over foam to fit perfectly in the crib
I use some left over batting to wrap around it ones and give it a more plush and soft look. I once again fold down the corners diagonally and stitch a line across to create more of a square look
I also sew it right sides together like a pillow and flip it inside out.
I then put the pieces in the crib to test it
I played with the directions the fairies would face
and then decided on the sides facing out
and the ends facing in
Step 5
I then went to work creating a quilted blanket
I chose alternating green and fairy print to create a 3x3
block quilt with 12 squares total
I will use a muslin backing because of the color, and the binding tape that matches the ones used on the bumper pads
